Healthy Homes Remediation LLC is here to help you handle your water loss as soon as possible 24/7. Water losses are labeled in 3 categories. Category 1 is a water loss that originates from a clean water source such as a water supply line to your toilet or sink. Category 2 is a water loss that originates from a contaminated water source such as water that has discharge from dishwashers or washing machines, overflows form washing machines, overflows from toilet bowls on the room side of the trap with some urine but no feces, or broken aquariums. Category 3 is a water loss that originates from a grossly contaminated water source such as sewage, flood water, and ground water. Many people do not know that sump pump backups are also CAT 3 water losses.
The Mitigation Process
It is important to have a professional address your water loss as soon as possible. The faster your building materials can be dried out, the more likely it is that they can be salvaged. We provide extraction of the excess water from your floor and any flooring materials present, but not all are salvageable. Building materials are inspected with a moisture meter to determine which have been affected. These materials are then determined to be salvageable or unsalvageable. The category of loss directly affects this decision. Unsalvageable materials are removed. Drying equipment such as fans and dehumidifiers are placed in the affected area. Once affected materials have been dried to acceptable levels, the drying equipment can be removed. The structure is then ready for repairs.
Sump Pump Backups & Category 3 Losses
As previously mentioned sump pump backups are included in Category 3 water losses. This is due to the water coming from the ground which could contain chemicals and other harmful agents. When a customer has a Category 3 or even 2 water loss we must be able to apply a disinfectant/anti-microbial agent to all affected surfaces of that material. If we cannot we must removed the affected materials. Getting you dry and properly sanitized is our number 1 goal for the health of your family.
