Sewage Removal & Treatment

The last thing anyone wants to deal with is sewage in their home, especially in a crawl space. So let Healthy Homes Remediation take care of your problem.  The first thing we do is create a proper containment around the affected area. The liquid portion must be pumped out. Depending on the amount of raw sewage, an assessment will be made as to how much contaminated soil will be removed. Prior to removal the affected soil will receive an application of lime to achieve a ph level of 12 prior to removal. Once assessed amount of soil has been removed, an additional application of lime will be applied to area if in crawl space. Additionally if the affected area is in a crawl space, a minimum 6 ml vapor barrier will be placed.

Getting A Plumber

A majority of sewage loss circumstances are caused by a leaking or broken drain line. A certified plumber should be called in to remove and replace any damaged or broken lines. Unfortunately most plumbers will not enter a space affected by sewage. That is where Healthy Homes Remediation steps in. Our services prepare the space for a plumber to work in a clean environment.

Soil Treatment

The importance of using lime to treat sewage affected soil is to achieve a ph level of 12. This usually required 24 hours of lime treatment. By raising the ph level to 12 it disinfects the contaminated soil. The reason we recommend applying a second application of lime is to ensure any affected soil left ove has been treated. Covering the affected area with a vapor barrier allows for the ground moisture to eventually wash the lime away.
